Page 1 of 2 When I first saw Walter Ostarly's work, I was absolutely amazed. Every single one of his photos is perfect to the detail. His skill with the camera along with his photographer's eye and his ability to work with the models makes every piece of his work amazingly sexy and tastefully done. I quickly became one of his biggest fans, and when we agreed to do an interview, I was ecstatic about the chance to pick the brain of a photographer of his level.

Walter began telling me about how he first got into the photography scene when he realized how much he enjoyed his photo intelligence training in the special forces. Although it was a completely different kind of photography than the model photography he's into now, he was able to become familiar with the basics. Eventually, Walter claimed to have gone crazy with his camera, taking pictures of everything and even developing them in his bathroom! Everything was trial and error, but it couldn't have been too bad taking pictures of his breathtaking fitness model wife, Gina Ostarly! After going on a few shoots with people such as Scott Appleby, Walter's career really started to take off. One of his first photos was even picked out to be painted by a commissioned artist!
Walter has always seen photography as a hobby. "It has nothing to do with money for me," he explained. He makes photography fun for himself and the people he works with. "I would never push a model to do something she wasn't comfortable with. Sure I've shot all kinds of photos, but it was only if that was what the model wanted to do." he said, "The girls should be completely confident when taking photos." Walter does a great job of handling every kind of photograph, and all of his work is wonderfully artistic and never distasteful.
Walter says he can tell how much his work has improved from the beginning when he looks at the work of photographers that he used to think were absolutely amazing, and now he isn't as greatly impressed. "The better I get, the harder it gets for me to be satisfied with my work," he says. However, he feels very good about how far he has come. The cameras that Walter likes to use is the Nikon D2H because even though it's not too great for glamour photos, it is very fast and will take a photo in a heartbeat, and then the Nikon D200 with the D700 as back-up. Then, I even asked him what a beginner like me should start with and he quickly recommended the Nikon D70. Thanks!
Although Walter enjoys meeting many new people while working, and he gets along with mostly everybody, he has still come across many people that he would consider "too big for their britches." No matter how much he wants to shoot a girl, if she's a bitch the first few times he talks to her, he'll refuse to shoot her. In an industry where personality is one of the most important things, many people are only friendly when in need of a certain associate. On Walter's Myspace, it says "If ya didn't wanna know me before DON'T BOTHER ME NOW!!!" and it's directed to people with exactly that kind of tendency.
