You're on a roadtrip from Dallas to Los Angeles with two buddies. After a drastically successful first day of driving, you find yourself in Albequerque, New Mexico. Exhausted, you immediately collapse into a deep, deep sleep.
Suddenly, you're being awoken by a bottomless, insistant blast of sound. Scared shitless, you shoot upright and catch just a split second of camcorder in your face before you're clobbered with a pillow. The next thing you know, you're irritably being escorted out of the hotel by the manager, armed security, and your two ecstatically delighted friends. Who's the mastermind behind this maniacal conundrum? None other than the slightly unhinged, but quite brilliant photographer Matt Blum. Blum first got started in photography when he decided to take it as an elective course his Junior year of college. After shooting his first roll of film, his professor was prompted to ask how much experience he had had prior to the course. When Matt told him none, the professor was stunned. He told Matt that all he needed was to learn the basics and then practice honing his natural gift. "He worked with me seperately during the class while teaching the rest of the students how to approach shots, etcetera," Matt said, "It was a tremendous compliment that made me realize what I truely wanted to do in life." So what kind of progress has Matt made since then? Well, just to name a few accomplishments, he recently had pictures in the March and July Issues of FHM magazine, he was named a photographer for FitnessModelsMagazine.com, and despite his "Maxim-style" reputation, he has currently stretched into the high fashion realm by shooting an ad for VOGUE. "I pride myself on being versatile. I don't want people to see my work and say that's Matt Blum's. I love to keep them guessing." Not to mention, just last October he was asked to shoot with Tommy Lee. "[Tommy Lee] has to be one of the most entertaining people I've ever met." Matt said, "The man has incredible energy and never stops moving. I was flattered to be asked to work with him." Hmm. Entertaining, energetic, and never stops moving. Who else does that remind us of? When asked to describe himself, Blum said, "Oh boy. Here we go. I'm EXTREMELY sarcastic. I'm also laid back, goofy, imaginative, and ADHD which makes for great shots if I'm not chasing a butterfly." So it pretty much goes without saying that Matt Blum has made a huge leap into the photography industry. "What I enjoy most is that I have the best job in the world, the gift of making someone feel absolutely stunning. I love watching people's faces when they see how I've made them look. They hold their heads higher, are more confident, and have a renewed love for themselves. It's the greatest gift in the world." What does a hard-worker like that do in the little free time he has? "I used to say my hobby was photography. Strange. Now I enjoy travel, people watching (my favorite), and eating!"
