"Well, I'm a Virgo, need I say more?" musician Lynn Carey Saylor jokes, "I am definitely a typical one in terms of being a perfectionist and always have been."

Lynn Carey SaylorLynn is a BMI affiliated singer, songwriter, guitarist, founder of the website www.guitargirls.com, and co-owner of the Los Angeles based commercial recording studio Skip Saylor Recording.  Skip Saylor Recording is known for mixing and/or recording work for such platinum selling artists as Gun n' Roses, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Boys II Men, Snoop Dogg, Foo Fighters, k.d. lang, DJ Quik, 2Pac, Elton John, Pink and many others.

Amidst all these accomplishments, Lynn Carey Saylor is now preparing for the release of her full length record, which is in pre-sale now and will start shipping at the beginning of August.  Ten of the eleven songs on her CD are written entirely by her, both words and music.  "I elected to do one cover tune, Pat Benatar's We Belong, but that was primarily for the reason that besides always having loved the song, I personally know the songwriters of it, and one of them has sadly been stricken with the devastating illness ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).  I wanted to pay tribute to him and his songwriting partner on the song, both of whom I greatly admire and respect."

Not to mention, this remake and Lynn's original song, If We Believe, feature Brian May, guitarist of the legendary group Queen.  "He is a dream to work with - super nice and, of course, super talented, as we all Lynn and Brian May of Queenknow," Lynn said, "I'm very lucky to know him and been able to have the great opportunity to work with him. Queen fans, I'd also like to mention, are just the most wonderful fans, and quite a few of them have discovered me due to my association with Brian. I feel blessed and honored to have the association with him that I do."

Lynn Carey Saylor was born in San Diego, but when she was two, her family moved to Las Vegas where she grew up.  There, she attended high school and became a graduate of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.  "I moved to L.A. for the sole purpose of furthering my music career," she explains, "I probably would have stayed in Vegas if I wasn't in music.  Almost all of the people I grew up with who were also musicians that made the Vegas to L.A. leap about when I did have since moved back to Vegas. The housing is much cheaper for one thing and if you don't become successful, it's easy to become swallowed up here. There are a lot of things to do in LA, though, so I like being here at times. I don't like the traffic, Lynn with Mig Ayesageneral congestion here and smog - well, who does? There's a price for being here, definitely."

From the time she was in grade school, Lynn has always been a hardworking perfectionist.  "Sometimes it's a good trait, as I have high attention for detail, but on the flip side of that, it can make you neurotic and limits the amount of things you can get done in life," she said, "I'm working on trying to find balance between doing good work and knowing when to let go. Beyond that, I'd say that I am an interesting mix of a very outgoing person and a somewhat introverted one. I was an only child until I was nine years old, so I learned to like my own company and spend a lot of time alone...But when I do decide to go out or I'm in public in any way, I'm very social and outgoing and a people person. People take to me very quickly and I am described by others as someone who is very good at making a positive first impression on people when I meet them."

As a songwriter, first and foremost, Lynn Carey Saylor's many other talents just seemed to fall in place.  "Well, I certainly played instruments before I started to sing. The singing came after my decision to start writing songs in my teens. Someone had to sing them, after all, so it might as well be me, I figured. Songwriting came more easily to me than singing did, without question. I always had a natural sense of melody and how to construct a song and write a lyric, but I had to focus fairly diligently on learning the fundamentals of singing - breath control, singing in pitch in the studio and things like that. There was a definite learning curve about it all and some frustration that came with it in the early days, unlike my writing, which seems to just kind of flow out of me from the beginning."  It's hard to believe that someone with such an amazing voice was once frustrated learning to sing, but you can only imagine how much she's improved after violin, piano, and guitar lessons, a college minor of music, and attending Dick Grove School of Music in Van Nuys!
